COVID-19: CALCULATE THE RISK

October 1, 2 and 3
2021

Demographic Aspects
Demographic factors refer to population density, percentage of male and female population, age and migration rate. The first one is associated with higher transmission speeds, since the more people are concentrated in smaller areas the greater the physical proximity, which increases the possibility of contagion.
In addition, the larger the population, the greater its impact on the burden on health systems and on high morbidity and mortality rates. Statistics, on the other hand, have shown a higher incidence of COVID-19 in men than in women, so it can be argued that the higher proportion of men in a state, the higher the contagion rate.
On the other hand, the age structure of the population has a direct impact on the number of complications due to the disease and the number of deaths. Thus, hospitalization and mortality rates have been higher in older populations. Finally, migration can also be a risk factor, as people can bring new variants that were not present in a country and increase the contagion.
