Self-Medication
This situation, which is caused by misinformation and informality, has been causing worrying cases of patients who have seen their lives endangered or lost. Behind this self-medication there is a lack of pharmacovigilance, insufficient health services, media that create false expectations with news out of context and probably, even more serious, ignorant governments that often instead of fighting it, promote it.
According to specialized websites, this has happened, at least, in Bolivia, Brazil, El Salvador and Guatemala. There have been distributed, indiscriminately, "kits" of medicines for the population to consume them as and when they see fit. Some of these drugs were: paracetamol, acetylsalicylic acid, azithromycin, loratadine, ivermectin, vitamins C and D, zinc, ibuprofen, flu medicine, omeprazole, hydroxychloroquine, prednisone, colchicine and chloroquine.
